SIEMENS

Siemens AG is the largest industrial manufacturing company in Europe with multiple branch offices outside Europe. Yellow Window's collaboration with Siemens spans a multitude of light rail products: "Avenio", "Avenio M" and "VAL".

Avenio Tramway

In 2006, Yellow Window was commissioned to design a new platform for trams for Siemens to be implemented in cities worldwide. In 2013, the first "Avenio" was rolled out in Munich, representing Siemens' return to the tram market.

The "Avenio" features a new, scalable architecture and is based on a single-articulated configuration. Our task focused on a platform design – a common base from which multiple projects can be developed. The ambition and challenge were therefore to present a universal and timeless design, a tram that can be offered to any city in the world.

The underlying objectives focused on maintaining design coherence throughout the various developments taking place. Meanwhile, the interior design has been driven by four key elements: the user, a coherent design language, modularity across multiple vehicle widths and, of course, design to cost.

2006 - 2012

Siemens configurator application

Interactive communication tools for Siemens

The procurement process in public transport is generally complex, abstract and time-consuming. We identified the need for manufacturers to act more efficiently and interactively, and to present clients with visual content in an easy, accessible way. So, beyond designing the trams with Siemens, Yellow Window identified how to improve communication and co-design in this process.

The application makes it possible to facilitate the sales process, by modifying most important parameters in real time, as well as visually exploring the vehicle, and to export the configuration as a datasheet. Yellow Window partnered with Bagaar to develop the Siemens Configurator applications for "Avenio", "Avenio M" and "Viaggio" trains.

Doha Tramway

Qatar Foundation placed an order to help transform Doha into a "knowledge-based city". The tram's timeless and minimalistic design complements and blends with its surroundings and the architecture of Doha's "Education City Campus".

To offer travelers comfortable rides in an extreme climate, "Avenio" Doha trams are customized with sunshades, dark thermal glass and heavy-duty air conditioning. The interior follows, with well-selected materials to bring an airy, calm, quality experience. The exterior offers a stark graphic picture; pure lines and dark windows set against pristine white shapes.
