Refurbishment of the high-speed train 
Mission

Thalys is a strong brand in European high-speed rail travel, renowned for comfort and hospitality.

 

Yellow Window was selected to design the fleet’s refurbishment: a total revamping of the complete interior of all Thalys trains during the course of its mid-life revision. The operator tasked Yellow Window with leading the design workflow during all stages of the project, from conception to final implementation, liaising with partners and suppliers.

Result

Yellow Window co-designed the former Thalys refurbishment over 10 years ago, yet this refurbishment posed new & unique challenges. This revamped train expresses the evolution of the brand for the years to come, translating Thalys's offer in product, identity and atmosphere. Simultaneously, Thalys' business case was implemented, aiming to accommodate more passengers (+7%) and luggage (+15%). Thus, ambience, spaciousness and comfort had to be key drivers in the project, resulting in new seating developments and lighting concepts.

 

The project is ongoing, and we are currently detailing products with several suppliers under supervision of Thalys/Masteris/SNCF. The trains are scheduled to enter service from 2019 onwards.
